Actor Dermot Mulroney Makes Feathery Friends and a Generous Contribution at SeaWorld San Diego

Dermot Mulroney recently made about 300 new feathery friends at SeaWorld San Diego! During a behind-the-scenes tour at the park’s Penguin Encounter, the film actor met, among others, "King Tut, a king penguin who lives with four other species in their chilly 25-degree habitat.

It’s Friday - and officially the last day of the project here in Nicaragua. We all met for breakfast and then geared up to go sea turtle watching. I had seen many baby turtles, but I could not leave without seeing at least one adult turtle. Jose wanted to show us how they monitor the turtles coming to the beach. Ideally, they want males so that they can tag them and take DNA testing for their research – but it’s harder to find males since they don’t come ashore to lay eggs.

It is Monday and we were back to work at 5:00 a.m. I found it very hard to wake up this morning after spending the weekend as a tourist - sightseeing, shopping and eating “normal” food. Since we have been working in the communities, all of the meals cooked by the families have been very traditional -rice, beans, and pork - things I normally don’t eat. So last night when I had dinner at Papa John’s Pizza, it was like a piece of heaven.

SeaWorld and Conservation Go Hand-In-Hand!

Conservation is once again the big winner! SeaWorld San Diego continued its support of conservation and animal protection efforts in Southern California with its donation of nearly $5,000 ($4,812.02 to be exact!) to the San Diego chapter of the Conservation Fund.

Employee Profile: Dr. Lara Croft

For young women looking to get into the field of veterinary science or marine biology, Dr. Lara Croft is an inspiration. Here's a little bit of informaiton on her background and some great photos of her doing some amazing work at SeaWorld.

Dr. Croft is one of three SeaWorld Orlando staff veterinarians. In this capacity, Dr. Croft maintains the health of the park's animals, including killer whales, dolphins, sea lions, seals, birds, fish, and turtles.
