A pregnant manatee rescued by SeaWorld’s Animal team in June has given birth to a healthy manatee calf!
Last week SeaWorld Orlando welcomed their first set of twin sea lion pups! This is very rare in the animal world as sea lions typically give birth to one pup at a time, so this is a grand feat for Mom. Fable, a nearly 14-year-old sea lion, is the proud mother of these cute little critters.
SeaWorld Orlando is caring for two recently hatched Caribbean flamingo chicks, one of which is pictured below!
Hatched on May 24, the youngster primarily stays in a brooder (similar to an incubator) to keep warm. Currently set at 96 degrees Fahrenheit, the temperature is intended to simulate the flamingo parents brooding the chick under their own feathers.
In mid-April, a local resident found a great egret chick on the ground and brought it to SeaWorld’s animal care team for help. SeaWorld’s aviculturists have seen cases like this before and speculated that the chick probably fell from its nest.
SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment has a lot to be thankful for this year, especially the successful births of these amazing animals:
Definitely the largest babies this year were killer whales -- tipping the scales at about 350 pounds! Both SeaWorld Orlando and San Antonio added to their killer whale families.
100-plus pound baby rhino born at Busch Gardens
Busch Gardens Tampa Bay welcomed a new baby white rhinoceros on July 12, 2010.
Busch Gardens Tampa Bay welcomed two endangered baby red-ruffed lemurs on April 21. The babies can be viewed by guests in Jambo Junction, where they reside with their mother and father, Maditra and Bozeny.
