Fall is in the air, and at Discovery Cove, so are exotic birds. There’s a pleasant variety of beautiful birds at Explorer’s Aviary – one of which is extremely unique. Houston is a white-bellied go-away bird that’s been at the Discovery Cove habitat since the park’s opening in 2000. He may tell you, “G’way”, but he would love to meet you!
Tawny Frogmouth Chick Hatches at SeaWorld Orlando
On Tuesday, April 26, 2011, SeaWorld Orlando’s aviculture department welcomed a tawny frogmouth chick into the family. The baby bird, which resembles a handful of cotton balls with a beak, has been cared for 24/7 by our experienced aviculturists.
Discovery Cove in Orlando Teams up with the Nature Conservancy's Adopt a Coral Reef Program
Coral reefs not only contribute to the overall beauty of the underwater world, but they are also one of the most dynamically diverse habitats. More than 7,300 species of fish call the Mesoamerican Reef home. These delicate, underwater ecosystems provide food, medicine and inspiration to generations of people as well.
Species Spotlight: Lionfish

The venomous, yet striking, lionfish is known for its large, feathery fins and lightning-fast reflexes. Their extremely long and separated spines give these fish a unique look and a poisonous sting.
Species Spotlight: Laughing Kookaburra

This tiny eastern Australia native is known for its not-so-tiny voice, and with a big voice comes an even bigger appetite! Kookaburras eat a variety of mice, lizards and sometimes even venomous snakes.
SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment Has A Lot To Be Thankful For This Year
SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment has a lot to be thankful for this year, especially the successful births of these amazing animals:
Definitely the largest babies this year were killer whales -- tipping the scales at about 350 pounds! Both SeaWorld Orlando and San Antonio added to their killer whale families.
Outwit, outplay, outlast – it was out-and-out fun with players from Survivor!
Recently, nearly 50 players and winners from Survivor, The Amazing Race and American Idol spent the day at Discovery Cove. The stars were in Orlando to benefit Give Kids the World, a wish-fulfilling organization supported by SeaWorld and its parks.
Our Feathered Family’s Contribution to Conservation
Did you know that even our feathered family members contribute to conservation? The feathers some of our birds naturally shed, or molt, are donated each month to the Feather Distribution Project. This worthwhile organization redistributes donated plumes to Native American tribes in an effort to prevent the illegal smuggling and plucking of endangered birds.
