Fly like an Eagle

To many, the Bald Eagle stands as a symbol of long life and great strength – and one facility in Virginia is making sure that this proud predator lives up to its reputation.

The Wildlife Center of Virginia is a leader in wildlife medicine and the only facility in Virginia licensed to treat bald eagles. They’ve worked with Busch Gardens Williamsburg on several bald eagle rescues, but one of their most successful was with “Crash” - a bald eagle that was hit by a semi-truck on I-64. The bird was rescued by the BGW Zoological staff and transported up to the Center for care. Even with numerous fractures on both wings and damage to one eye, “Crash” was a challenging bird to treat. Despite his independent nature, both groups worked together to give our feathered friend a second chance. It’s a success story to be proud of.

The SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund has supported the "Bald Eagle Project” since 2007 – and is proud to help facilitate the center's groundbreaking work in the treatment and release of bald eagles, improve their ability to provide critical care, and to share important conservation messages with the general public.

With the help of cutting-edge veterinary medical facilities like this one, the Bald Eagle should continue to soar the skies and serve as a symbol of strength and longevity for many years to come.
