Imagine the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State and Chrysler buildings and even the Las Vegas strip completely dark. That possibility will become reality during the Earth Hour 2010 Global Event beginning at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 27. Earth Hour is designed to highlight global climate change and world energy use. The event is being supported by World Wildlife Fund (WWF), other environmental groups and local governments in more than 1,000 cities around the globe.
SeaWorld's Park & Entertainment's Florida parks will join the initiative, turning the power off on attractions such as SeaWorld's Skytower, Busch Gardens' famous thrill rides and numerous other shops, signs and support areas.
Our parks are recognized world wide for our commitment to protecting wildlife and wild places. Through a partnership spanning more than 10 years, we have worked together with the World Wildlife Fund to help at-risk animals and habitats around the world, from saving sea turtles from derelict fishing gear to increasing anti-poaching patrols for tigers throughout Asia.
To support Earth Hour in Orlando, we will dim the lights on our 400 ft Skytower and darken the sense of arrival signs located at the three corners of SeaWorld. At Busch Gardens, we will turn off the area, accent and track lights in select areas and attractions and darken the three sense of arrival signs.
You can make a difference too. While we're shutting off the lights at our parks. We encourage you to do the same at home! From 8:30 until 9:30 p.m. this Saturday, unplug electronics, turn off that television and enjoy a peaceful candlelit hour at home. It's a small shutdown that will help make a big statement on what it takes to keep this planet humming for years to come.
