Thursday, Aug. 11, SeaWorld Orlando animal care experts released a male manatee at Kars Park in North Merritt Island, Fla. He was rescued in January due to cold stress and was brought to SeaWorld where he had been recovering at the park's rehabilitation facility for the past eight months.
According to Pedro Ramos-Navarrete, one of SeaWorld's senior keepers, the release went very smoothly, and Inferno (manatee was named after the firefighter who helped rescued him) immediately found many other manatees in the area to learn the ropes from -- mainly where to find the rich food sources.
SeaWorld's animal care staff are on call 24/7, 365 days a year. And for the past 45 years, SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment has helped animals in need -- ill, injured and orphaned. More than 18,000 animals have been rescued by our experts at all of our parks, and most of those animals are successfully treated and returned to the wild.
