Species Spotlight: Celebrating Sea Otters

by Staff

SeaWorld San Diego recently participated in the celebration of Sea Otter Awareness Week, to help educate the public about a species threatened by oil spills, entanglement in fishing nets and disease.

SeaWorld keepers conducted daily presentations with the park’s resident California sea otters, Clover (10 months) and Abby (4 years). During these sessions, the keepers did training and husbandry sessions with the otters. The otters did their part by swimming, playing, grooming each other and eating. Mostly eating. Sea otters consume about 25 percent of their body weight each day!

There were educational craft projects....

.....And O.P. Otter the costume character stopped by to join the festivities and pose for photos.
